Scipio is a week old male Grey-Headed Flying-Fox pup who was on his dead mum who was hanging underneath an awning on a weekend of heatwave temperatures.
I'm not sure what happened with mum, but her body was very dehydrated and she was skinny, with no milk (dried up), and baby hanging on tight.
As is usual with heat stress babies, fluids are the key to survival. I gave Scipio some subcutaneous fluids out in the car before I left the rescue location, but despite fluids and glucose, the little guy didn't survive the night.
His name was from the street, also I thought that the name of a good strong Roman General's who defeated Hannibal might give my little guy a boost to survival, but it wasn't to be.
RIP little Scipio
