These are our highly recommended free activities in Christchurch for kids and the whole family:
CANTERBURY MUSEUM Kids can learn a lot in this place as you can explore multicultural exhibits, dinosaurs, mummies, meteors, crystals, and also enjoy Antarctic exhibits. There is a special theme in one section of the museum and is changed every school holiday. We have our annual pass in the Discovery section where we explore lots of wonderful collections like various preserved specimens, fossils, pinned insects , live tarantulas, and so much more!
IMAGINATION STATION We go to this place for my robotics course and there are also lots of fun things to do inside. You can play with a big collection of bricks or attend an activity for the day. It's a good place to read books too as it's inside of the big Tūranga, Christchurch's central library.
MARGARET MAHY PLAYGROUND This is a nice open playground for kids to enjoy. It has giant silver slide, flying fox, water play area to name a few.
AIRFORCE MUSEUM OF NEW ZEALAND We enjoy coming here and see different historic aircrafts on display and learning about the military's aviation journey. I also love the simulation flight of the 'Mosquito Mission'.
CHRISTCHURCH ADVENTURE PARK We come here to do one of our fave walking tracks on the mountain trails.
It's the best place for mountain biking, coaching, world-class zip lining, or even just for sightseeing. Take a chairlift and enjoy the scenery on top. They have a great cafe too.
