STATE COLLEGE, Pa. New documents filed in the lawsuit against the NCAA and Penn State indicate that the NCAA may have been much more involved with the Freeh investigation into the Jerry Sandusky scandal than originally thought.
The issue is the Freeh investigation was said to be completely independent, but some new court documents filed on behalf of Sen. Jake Corman and state Treasurer Robert McCord indicate that the NCAA may have been involved from nearly day one.
A full, fair and completely independent investigation without favoritism toward any party.
Thats what Louis Freeh stated when issuing the Freeh Report publicly in 2012.
But, new court documents filed Tuesday indicate the NCAA may have been heavily involved in the Freeh investigation.
The first known communication, according to the documents, happened just two weeks after Penn State hired Freeh to do a thorough investigation.
According to these documents, officials from the NCAA held weekly conference calls with the Freeh Group, had several meetings in person and exchanged more than 100 emails.
In one of those emails, officials from the NCAA list about 35 questions they wanted used during the Freeh Groups investigation.
In another, officials from the Freeh Group are asking officials from the NCAA to approve a letter with information involving the case.
Penn State officials released a statement saying in part: It has been public knowledge for almost three years that the university had agreed that the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference would monitor the progress of the Freeh Investigation.
