Topic:
Redeeming the Heart of Education and the Soul of Teaching and Learning
Abstract:
Education often feels like a balancing act - with competing demands and conflicting purposes, it can be difficult for educators to stay focused on what truly matters. Has the heart of teaching and learning been lost in the noise? Professor John Quay believes there's hope, through the good work of teachers.
In the 2024 HOPE Lecture, Professor Quay suggests a different way of considering how teaching and learning work, one that is always available, but mostly hidden beneath other concerns. Through a subtle realignment of the ways teaching and learning fit together, Professor Quay argues we can move away from rigid top-down approaches to a more integrated vision of education.
The HOPE Lecture: celebrating the first Australian university course in physical education.
HOPE is an acronym for Health, Outdoor and Physical Education; but HOPE also carries an optimism regarding possible futures for education.
