Constructed in 1600, the limestone bridge connects the Doge’s Palace to the New Prison in Venice, Italy. It was given its name by Lord Byron in the 19th century who claimed condemned prisons would sigh sadly as they crossed the bridge and took their last look at beautiful Venice before being locked up in their prison cells!
