The approach that I used to learn the notes on my bass can be summarized in 4 steps:

- Learn the logic behind musical notes
- Learn the logic of the fretboard by noticing patterns (shapes that repeat)
- Learn the location for all of your octaves
- Playing the bass guitar everyday and applying the logic and octaves as often as possible, while keeping time
