In this video we will review what low pass filters are and show a working low pass filter circuit. The cutoff frequency will be calculated and the effects of the cutoff frequency will be shown.
The definition of a single order low pass filter is that it only allows frequency from 0 Hz (or DC) to the f0 - also known as the cutoff frequency. All higher frequency signals are attenuated. At the cutoff frequency the signal is attenuated by .707 of the maximum voltage value.
What is allowed to pass through the filter is known as the passband and the signal prevented from going through is called the stop band.
