We are all engaged in transitions, and the transitions in our individual lives have to be linked in some manner to the larger transitions that we are in the midst of in the industrial world. On the most general level we are all involved in the transition from a fossil fueled civilization to a solar sustainable civilization.

If we do not succeed in achieving this transition we will become extinct, since with a short period, since civilizations based on non-renewables are themselves non-renewable.
