WHY PEOPLE GET PROMOTED INTO POSITIONS THEY CAN'T DO
The Peter Principle was coined by Peter Laurence, and it says that managers get promoted into positions based on their past performance, not their ability to do the job. This assures that every leadership position is held by someone who can't do it.
A 2018 study by the the National Bureau of Economic Research actually found this to be true fairly often.
While this research may be frustrating and demoralizing to many, I see it as a call to action.
It's good to promote people into higher roles, but it's a BIG risk if there's no training to help them develop and accelerate their growth as a leader.
If you're looking to help level-up your leaders, I can share what our leadership looks as well as the quantified results... including an 99% employee retention rate.
