Security was expanded at different spots in West Bengal's Howrah district on Monday as part of a Bharat Bandh termed by some activist groups to protest the Centre's announcement of the Agnipath recruitment scheme week ago. Massive protest in several regions after the policy, which enables Indian youngsters to serve in the frequent recruitment of the Armed Forces for four years, was announced on June 14. These states included Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, and Assam. Protesters went on the rampage in some areas, torching trains, torching vehicles, and damaging both private and public property.
