The famous null result of the Michelson-Morley experiment would now be expected, using present-day knowledge of the structure of solid matter, even if light and other electromagnetic effects move relative to a unique frame of reference (as the 19th-century ether was supposed to be). This means that the principle of relativity can be given a firm physical basis in terms of the limiting nature of the velocity of light in a vacuum, rather than being only a metaphysical principle, devoid of physical explanation. The irony of the continuing search for the unique frame of reference of the universe is that the inertial frame of reference will do for all practical purposes, given the result of the Michelson Morley experiment.
There are precisely two potential inertial frames:

1. The frame marked by the remnant radiation of The Big Bang.

2. The average mutual recession velocities of the galaxies.

I predict that these two values will converge to a single value – the speed of light.

Instead of looking for a mechanism which links the speed of light to the force of gravity, why not reverse this and say that the force of gravity is a function of the speed of light.
