Located in the Belém district, the Jerónimos Monastery is a remarkable masterpiece of Manueline architecture and the final resting place of some of Portugal's greatest figures, such as Vasco da Gama, Luis de Camões, King Manuel I and King João III.

Lisbon's most popular tourist site and one of the first monuments in Europe to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Jerónimos Monastery was built in the 1500s and is a must-see marvel. It was built by order of King Manuel I to honor the voyages of discovery by Vasco da Gama, first European to reach India by sea.
