How to avoid pickpockets in Barcelona in eight easy steps.
1. Don’t put things in your back pocket. Just don’t.
2. Invest in a bag that isn’t easy to open. Like this one.
3. Face the front of your bag towards your body so it’s even harder to open. And if you have a backpack, just spin it round and wear it on your front.
4. Don’t count your money in public, especially around cashpoints.
5. Load up some of your money onto a travel money card. You can get these from the Post Office and they work just the same as debit cards.
6. Keep your cards and cash in more than one place. Get a money belt which goes under your clothes and is inexpensive.
7. When you’re at a restaurant, put the strap of your bag around the chair that you’re sitting on and preferably put the bag on your lap.
8. Lastly, keep your wits about you. If you look like you’ve made a conscious effort to stay safe, pickpockets will view you as a difficult target and they’ll move on.
So follow these eight simple steps so that you can have peace of mind, meaning that you can just focus on enjoying your trip.
