The Robert S. Peabody Institute of Archaeology collection contains more than 500,000 individual items. Starting around 2017 their team began sorting approximately 2,000 wooden drawers of artifacts--the entirety of the archaeological collection.
Led by Marla Taylor, curator of collections, institute staff and volunteers inventoried and cataloged every single item that has been amassed for over a hundred years at the institution.
All materials were entered into a database so that it is searchable and accessible for teachers, researchers, students, and tribal partners.
On October 1, 2021, Marla and her team cataloged the final item in the collection! Congrats to the Peabody on this massive undertaking.
