Jane’s Addiction’s concert in Boston on Friday, September 13, ended abruptly after a physical altercation between singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro. During the performance of "Ocean Size," Farrell approached Navarro, shoved him, and the two exchanged heated words. Farrell then threw a punch at Navarro, hitting him in the upper body.
Crew members and bassist Eric Avery intervened, pulling Farrell backstage, which brought the show to an immediate halt. Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins, who was celebrating his birthday, later came to the front of the stage to signal the end of the concert.
According to attendees, Farrell appeared to be drinking throughout the night, while Navarro and Avery seemed unusually tense. The confrontation occurred near the end of the set, with previous shows on the tour featuring between 12 to 15 songs.
This tour marks the first time in 14 years that Jane’s Addiction’s classic lineup has toured together, following Navarro’s return after recovering from a long battle with COVID-19. He had been absent when Avery rejoined the band in 2022. Earlier in the week, Farrell apologized to fans during a New York City show, acknowledging issues with his vocals.
Despite the incident, Jane’s Addiction is scheduled to continue their North American tour with Love and Rockets, with the next show set for Sunday, September 15, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The tour is scheduled to conclude on October 16 in Los Angeles.
