Occurred on January 25, 2020 / Abraham Lake, Alberta, Canada
"Abraham Lake is located 300km NW of Calgary, AB in the Canadian Rockies. It lines the David Thompson Highway between Saskatchewan River Crossing and Nordegg. It is an artificial lake and the lake's incredible blue color is caused by rock flour, as in other glacial lakes. The lake became world famous due to the formation of methane bubbles in the ice during the winter months. The methane bubbles are released from decaying organic material in the lake bed and are trapped in the ice on the surface of the lake. The thing that mesmerized me the most was the clarity of the ice and water. It felt like you were walking on air. The best viewing conditions appear to be between January and March."
