Let Us Sleep Now, poem by David Eller
Composed, sung and played on the piano by Neta Rad
English translation:
I sleep all my life
sleep by day, sleep by night.
Eyes open - and I sleep,
slumbered even before birth.
I was born to awaken, but
did not awake.
Often I dream. But mostly
I sleep and wait. Wait
for a waking hand to tear
from my eyes, my ears, my mouth
the veil of eternal sleep
and breathe into me
everlasting life
a morning life.
And I'll soar
on the wings of dawn
into the blue...
Until then - I shall sleep.
