Most lever guns will not do this. The Ruger Marlin 1895 Trapper/SBL 45-70 lever gun will.
Loading: It is much easier and smoother to load by putting the rim of the cartridge in the loading gate notch. This leaves the gate open for the next cartridge to easily be inserted.
Unloading: The cartridges can easily be removed from the magazine tube through the loading gate by simply pushing it in. The magazine tube spring will push the cartridges out till the magazine is empty. No need to lever cycle the bullets.
