For over 50 years, a tiny elite at the top of a giant pyramid of grift have been enriching themselves by selling "motivational tools," mostly cassette tapes, to Amway distributors. The behavior-altering effect of these tapes and their associated events are part of why many people refer to Amway as a cult. But how did the "tools cult" begin, when, and under what circumstances? Who were Dexter Yager and Bill Britt, the men whose idea the tools cult mostly was? How and why did it become so lucrative? Why did the Amway corporation try to rein it in back in the early 1980s, and why did it give up on that effort? This in-depth history of the tools business is the first (to my knowledge) attempted by a historian. And it's a story that lies at the very heart of American business, political and even religious history of the past few decades.
This video is the result of a major research project and includes source citations, as well as explosive revelations from the real history of the multilevel marketing and pyramid scheme industries.
Here's the "side video" that explains the making of this project, and what I left out (and why): [ Ссылка ]
