The Battle of Athens, sometimes known as the McMinn County War, was a rebellion led by citizens in the town of Athens and Etowah, Tennessee. I assume they went with Athens for the name even though multiple towns were involved because it just sounds way cooler. They revolted against the local government in August, 1946. The citizens, some of whom were WWII veterans, accused the local governments of predatory policing, police brutality, political corruption, and voter intimidation.
