Hey guys, here's the first official teaser, look, interior and exterior design images of the 2022 Kia K9 flagship sedan.
Kia's flagship sedan, the K9, has been updated with a new design. The K9 was sold as the K900 in the United States until Kia recently canceled it for our market. We don't expect the K9 to return to our shores anytime soon.
The flagship gets a larger grille and redesigned lights.
Earlier this year, Kia announced plans to withdraw the Cadenza and K900 in the United States due to low demand. The smaller of the two sedans is featured in international markets as the all-new K8 and now the company's flagship car is also receiving an update for markets where it is still available. This is a mid-cycle review rather than a next-gen model, but the visual changes are quite significant.
Sold at home in South Korea as the K9, the chic full-size sedan is previewed in two official images showing the redesigned headlights with a flatter design. The enlarged grille now with chrome "V" logos extends to meet the lights while the bumper has a cleaner appearance and air ducts at its corners. The rear shows the KDM-spec K9 facelift with a full-width LED light bar and the license plate moved from the trunk lid to the bumper.
New 19-inch alloy wheels and the updated company badge complete the changes on the exterior, while the interior has also undergone a series of changes.
To make the interior even quieter, Kia equipped its chic full-size sedan with upgraded sound-absorbing glass. New wood trim debuts with the K9 facelift, along with more sophisticated upholstery and an “Ergo Motion” driver's seat that stretches out for added comfort. There is also a VIP right rear seat which stretches out to make the trip as pleasant as possible.
The K9 / K900 has only been around for a little over three years, but South Korean brands are shortening life cycles to keep products as fresh as possible to make them more competitive against German brands.
As Kia is tweaking the names it uses for its latest vehicles, we wonder if the updated large sedan will be sold as the K9 in markets where the car is currently offered as the K900 and Quoris. A full reveal should take place in the coming weeks when we find out about the tech specs. For what it's worth, that "4X" badge on the trunk lid is probably only for the all-wheel-drive version.
It's refreshing to see that Kia is still determined to respond to a gradually shrinking sedan segment, investing in facelifts and next-gen models. Crossovers and SUVs have taken over, but the three-box recipe is still relevant. The updated K9 comes just days after Hyundai overhauled the Grandeur sedan in its home market, ahead of the arrival of the next-gen model slated for 2022.
The 2022 Kia K9 goes on sale locally on June 3 and costs just over $ 51,000 (converted from the South Korean won) for the base version and up to $ 68,300 for the highest trim level, before options.
What do you think of this luxury sedan?
