His name is Millkom, and his performance in Saturday's $400,000 Man O' War at Belmont Park left observers grasping for ways to describe his performance.
Scary, impressive and frightening were some of the best.
Back in America after finishing 13th last November in the Breeders' Cup Classic, Millkom, an English-bred who races in France for trainer Jean-Claude Rougget, took to the grass here Saturday and demolished his 11 opponents.
Millkom won by only 1 1/4 lengths while covering the 11/8th miles in 2:12 4/5, but Gary Stevens never asked the 4-year-old to run down the stretch. In fact, Stevens never moved his hands as Millkom won for fun without any urging of any kind.
A winner of 12 of 18 starts, Millkom was purchased three weeks ago by Gary Tanaka and was to be turned over to trainer Rodney Rash.
The Man O' War, part of Belmont's Super Saturday, also included Cigar's victory in the Woodward as well as four other Grade I events.
