Terima Kasih is a fishing boat from East Java in Indonesia. In Indonesia, vessels of this type are known as perahu konting, or sometimes a perahu mayang. This boat was built sometime in the mid-1970s and used for many years out of a fishing community named Jepara.
In early Feburary 1984, the boat was bought by Australian mariners Jerry Williams and Jamie Munro who then set sail for Australia. They arrived in Darwin on 17 May 1984.
MAGNT was the first museum in Australia to actively collect southeast Asian, particular Indonesian, watercraft. Terima Kasih is an outstanding vessel. It is the only museum example of a traditional boat type from the north and central coastal regions of Java on display in Australia. It is also the only traditional boat on display in Australia that can represent the artisanal fishing practice of night fishing with lanterns and nets.
Terima Kasih is on display Colin Jack-Hinton Maritime Gallery at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) in Darwin.
