Thousands of migrants and refugees have flooded to Turkey's western frontier, trying to enter Greece by land and sea after Turkey said its borders were open to those hoping to head to Europe.

A Turkish official said the fighting in Idlib, Syria was directly linked to Turkey's decision to open the gates for refugees.

Greece says it has now stopped nearly 10,000 migrants crossing from Turkey, calling it a threat to national security.
