Rabindranath Tagore's Shilaidaha Kuthibari is the historic and nostalgic home of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore. It is located the Kushtia's Kumarkhali Upazila's Shilaidoho Union's Khorshedpur village and is situated only 15km away from Kushtia city. Although the entire Kuthibari is built on 33 Bighas of land the main building has been constructed on 2.5 Bighas of land. The 3 floored Kuthibari has a total of 18 rooms and the poet's writing room is on the third floor. The poet used to enjoy sunset, sunrise, and moonlight from the building's rooftop. In 1807, Rabindranath Tagore's father Prince Darkanath Tagore became the landlord of this area. Later on from 1889 to 1901, Rabindranath Tagore visited here during irregular breaks to conduct all estate-related work. It was during that time he wrote the books "Sonar Tori", "Chitra", "Chaitali" and also started the English translation of the poem "Gitanjali". The Kuthibari has been under the supervision of the Archaeology department since 1958. Presently, it is being used as Shiladaha Rabindra Kuthibari Museum. The museum is home to photos of poet Rabindranath Tagore from different times in his life. There are also other useful items like two speedboats named Chanchola and Chopla, 8 Behara Palki, Platoon, Tea Table, wooden chairs, sofa set, couch and various paintings by painted by the poet.

Summer timings: Everyday 10 am – 6 pm
Winter timings: Everyday 1:30 pm – 5 pm(new)
It is closed temporarily every day from 1 pm – 1.30 pm for a break. It is closed entirely on Sundays and every Monday it is open from 2 pm onwards.
The ticket price for everyone is 30 Taka
Ticket price for middle school students is 5 Taka
Ticket price for citizens of SAARC countries is 50 Taka
The ticket price for other foreign visitors is 15 Taka
How to go
You can go to Kushtia from Dhaka both by bus and train. From the capital's Kalyanpur bus stand you can use New SB, Super Deluxe, Shyamoli, Hanif, etc. bus services to go to Kushtia. You will have to drop it off at the Mojompur gate. AC Bus fares are 600-650 Taka and Non AC bus fares are 450-500 Taka. If you want to go by train, you will have to board either Sundarban or Chitra Express from Kamlapur railway station and drop off at Poradoho or Bheramara Station from where you can take a bus or CNG to go to Kushtia. Upon reaching Kushtia city, you can use a local auto-rickshaw, CNG, or easy bike to visit Kuthibari. Google Map: click here
Where to stay
To spend the night in Kushtia there are some medium-quality residential hotels you can use such as Hotel Noor, Hotel Ratul, Hotel Liberty, Padma Hotel, and Shapla Hotel. Other than these there are some decent hotels in Mojompur gate and N.S road. There are some good quality hotels in Kushtia. You can try Hotel Shofi the court station area.
