The HP Victus 15 sports a 15.6-inch, 19 20 by 10 80-pixel anti-glare display with a refresh rate of 144 hertz and a reaction time of 9 milliseconds. The Victus 15's display renders details well, resulting in crisp pictures. However, if you are a professional artist, you should avoid using this display. However, color richness and brightness are not strong points of this display. To give a more practical example of the performance, we played Prey 2017 on the HP Victus 15 and frequently found ourselves reaching for the brightness button to acquire additional illumination during dark situations, only to find that it was already maxed out. On the plus side, the 144-hertz refresh rate made gameplay feel smooth, snappy, and quick.
The HP Victus 15 is equipped with a 12th Generation Intel Core 12500H CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU in the HP Victus 15 has 4GB of VRAM. If you're looking for a low-cost gaming laptop, you're probably not looking for a machine that can blast through triple-A titles with lightning-fast frame rates and cutting-edge graphics capabilities. Still, you're looking for something that will make you say, "OK, this is good enough!"
On the Grand Theft Auto V and Far Cry New Dawn benchmarks, the HP Victus 15 managed to break the 30 frames per second barrier, hovering around 39 and 54 frames per second, respectively. It doesn't quite beat the average budget gaming laptop, which averaged 58 frames per second for GTA5 and 69 frames per second for New Dawn. It can keep up with select games. The Victus 15 scored 1,970 on the 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra graphics test.
The thermal performance of the Victus 15 is commendable. Even after hours and hours of gaming on it, it managed to stay cool under pressure. The Victus 15 achieved 74.5, 77.5-, and 79.5 degrees Fahrenheit for the touchpad, keyboard center, and underside during our non-gaming heat test, which involved playing a fullscreen HD video for 15 minutes. The hottest spot on the laptop was near the bottom vents, where temperatures reached 80.5 degrees. All of these temperatures were below our 95-degree threshold.
