NEP 2020 is a huge step forward to transforming India’s school education system, with a focus on acquiring 21st Century skills of critical thinking and problem solving. The policy accords the highest priority to Foundational Literacy and Numeracy. But the policy was drafted before the pandemic and, unfortunately, the context in which it is being implemented has changed. We need to adapt the policy to our current situation — adopt a blended learning approach so that children continue learning at home and build on some of the innovative learning models implemented during the lockdown.
This edition of IE Thinc discusses the direction school education has to take to achieve NEP’s vision and the role of technology in enabling this change, besides unpacking the impact this might have on the future economy.
