Toyota Avanza is a small multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that combines practicality and cost-effectiveness in an affordable package made for the Philippines.

In the Philippines, the 1st generation Avanza had been on sale since 2006. It was available in two trim levels: the J trim with a 1.3-litre engine, having no power windows and locks, and only available with a manual transmission, while the G trim has a 1.5-litre engine, and available with a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic transmission respectively. In 2008, the J trim was made available without the third row seat. This particular trim is popularly used as metered taxicabs in the Philippines. The Avanza was also updated in 2008 with an updated ceiling with grooves to improve airflow to the rear and an updated interior color scheme.

1. What is a Provisional Safeguard Duty?

Ang provisional safeguard duty ay isang tariff import duty imposed by the Bureau of Customs as per Custom Memorandum Order No. 6-2021 dated 01 February 2021 pursuant to the Administrative Order (DAO) No. 20-11 of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on certain imported motor vehicles effective February 1, 2021.

2. What is the effect to the customer?

It was effective last March 1, 2021, a deposit will be collected by our authorized cars dealerships to cover the provisional safeguard duty upon purchase of the covered vehicle.

3. When does the customer pay the deposit?

Ang deposit will be collected during the down payment and an Acknowledgment Receipt will be issued by the dealer. This will be held in-trust for by the dealer until such time the government has finalized this provision.

4. Will the provisional duty rates be permanent?

Actually the basis will depend on the results of the investigation, if the Tariff Commission determines there is a basis to impose safeguard duty, DTI will determine the definitive duty rate to be imposed.

5. What happens to customer deposit?

In the event that the DTI will impose a definitive duty rate, the deposit will be treated as additional payment to the vehicle. Otherwise, the Dealer will be refunding the deposit to the customer depending on the final amount of Safeguard Duty.
