President Benigno S. Aquino III led the ceremonial capsule-laying of the new Bohol Panglao Airport and the symbolic lights-on ceremony of over 2,600 sitios in Central Visayas under the Sitio Electrification Program during his visit to Bohol.
Amounting to P7.2 billion, construction of the airport will be taken out from the P4.6 billion Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), while the Philippine government will cover the remaining P2.6 billion.
According to the President, with the airport’s wider floor area of 8,800 square meters, it will augment tourist visits in Bohol to approximately 1.7 million passengers that will replace the old and limited Tagbilaran Airport once completed on December 2017.
Meanwhile, maintenance and operation of the Panglao Airport will be placed under the government’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Program with the bidding process to start on 20 March 2016 and awarding to be completed on June 2016.
Alongside the event, the President also led the symbolic lights-on ceremony of over 2,600 sitios in Central Visayas under the Sitio Electrification Program spearheaded by the Department of Energy (DOE).
In his message, the President confirmed that the Sitio Electrification Program has completed 98.72% or 32,026 sitios in the entire country, with Bohol already reaching 100% electrification in all of its sitios. He is confident that the remaining numbers will be completed within March this year.
“Nakita naman po ninyo, magkakarugtong ang lahat ng proyekto natin; nakatutok ang lahat sa isang layunin: Ang iangat ang antas ng pamumuhay ng ating mga boss. Ang turismo, tinutukan natin para makalikha pa ng trabaho at lumawak ang oportunidad,” President Aquino said.
He also cited other government projects and programs that the province has received amounting to a total of P19 billion from 2011 to 2016. Under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Bohol has received P10.45 billion while the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has, likewise, allotted Bohol with P8.5 billion. These include the various rehabilitation projects it underwent after the region was severely devastated by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on 2013.
