Cross-border data flows are becoming increasingly important in the modern economy. Currently, many individuals distrust corporations and governments as they worry personal data may be collected and exploited without their explicit consent. Many oppose the international transfer of their personal information to jurisdictions where data protection is weaker, not properly enforced, or where they may lack judicial rights to redress.
Digital data does need to be protected and it is imperative to mitigate risks from harmful online content and activities. In many countries, a comprehensive personal data protection law is expected to address some of these crucial issues. Safeguarding sensitive users' data cannot be pursued merely by data localization. Rather, an advanced cyber security posture - often absent in developing countries- is the key. Providing private sectors with a business climate supportive of technological innovation in the country should therefore be prioritized. This webinar aims to discuss the data exchange process and applicable regulations to ensure the security of cross-border data exchange.
