After over a decade of thrashings, underperformance and finals near misses, the Cobras entered 2016 just begging for a slice of success.
We had not made an appearance in the finals since 2001.
After a seventh-placed finish in 2015, new coach Coach Travis Hodgson turned the club’s fortunes around seemingly overnight, as the Marsh reeled off wins both at home and away.
By the end of the regular season, it was only a 3-point loss in the final home-and away fixture that cost the Cobras the minor premiership.
A week later, the Cobras took on Lake Wendouree in our first finals appearance in 15 years. A large travelling crowd made their way to Eastern Oval in Ballarat.
By three-quarter time, the game was on a knife’s edge. A see-sawing contest saw the Cobras hold a seven-point lead.
A final quarter blitz of 5 goals blew the final margin to 41 points with a delirious Cobras crowd in full voice.
Enjoy the team song from that great day!
Country footy at it’s best.
