Abstract: Poverty, though a well-researched and widely discussed societal issue, often conceals a myriad of hidden costs that extend beyond its visible manifestations. This presentation delves into the uncharted territory of these concealed burdens, drawing insights from the analysis of digital trace data collected from the smartphones of low-income individuals in U.S. metropolitan areas. By harnessing the power of digital footprints left by individuals navigating the online landscape, we uncover nuanced facets of poverty that remain elusive in traditional research methodologies.
