Took my Surly Wednesday out for a snow ride last winter, and it didn't go to plan. Although there was fresh snow, it sat atop a crunchy ice layer with frozen footsteps. The conditions made for terrible riding. As a snow sports enthusiast, I should have expected the variable snow conditions and its impact on cycling. But it still caught me by surprise. I just figured fat bikes could ride over anything. Unfortunately, they cannot.
