On January 1, the Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command released a music video online featuring the song "Chinese People" by Hong Kong pop star Andy Lau. The video showcased Chinese J-35A jets, the 2024 "Joint Sword" drills around Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou hosting Chinese students, and Taiwan’s 2022 Winter Olympics team.
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council urged vigilance against Beijing’s propaganda, while President Lai Ching-te called for increased defense spending to counter China’s threat.
“Taiwan must be prepared for danger in times of peace. It must keep increasing the national defense budgets to strengthen its defense capabilities in order to show determination to defend the country.”
