Athletics Meet Held at Sainik School Bijapur:
Sainik School Bijapur organized its Annual Athletics Meet at its premises from 18 to 25 August 2014.
Mr.D Randeep, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Bijapur was the Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony of the Athletics Meet which was held on Monday,26 Aug 2014. Mr. Shivakumar KB, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat, Bijapur was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. The Guests presented the medals and certificates to the winners. Principal Col R Balaji introduced the guests and delivered a welcome speech.
Appreciating the impressive march past of the cadets, Mr. Randeep said that the dedication and hard work paves the way for success. If one has belief and determination then nothing is impossible. He appealed the cadets to avail the facilities and make use of the opportunities provided to them in order to become successful in their life.
He urged the students to contribute and dedicate themselves in the process of nation-building. He felt that the Sainik Schools have pivotal roles to produce able and dynamic leaders to make this country strong and prosperous.
A weeklong sports meet included a number of track and field events such as long jump. Triple jump, high jump, shot put, hammer throw, discus throw, 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 110 m hurdles and long distance run of 1500 m and 3000 m. Adilshahi house won the championship trophy in senior category whereas Vijayanagar house emerged the winner in junior category. Cadet Praveenkumar Meda of Adilshahi house was adjudged as General Champion in Senior category whereas Cadet Vijay Natikar of Chalukya house was declared as the General Champion in Junior category.
The highlight of this Athletics Meet was the record-breaking feats of Cadet Chetan Kabade and Cadet Basavaraj MD in field events. Cadet Chetan Kabade set a new record with the mark of 11.87 m by breaking the previous record of 11.69 m in shot put event. Cadet Basavaraj M.D. also made a new record of 35.35 m by breaking the previous record of 34.95 m in hammer throw established by Lt Gen Om Prakash, UYSM, AVSM, SM, set 42 years ago . Mr. Basavaraj Biradar, Roll No. 1899, an alumnus and proprietor of Eduwize Software, Bangalore awarded the cash prize of Rs.2500 each athlete totally amounting to Rs.5000.
The Distinguished Guests who attended the Athletics Meet included Mr. Sajjadpeeran Mushriff, Mayor, Bijapur, Mr. Anand Dhumale, Deputy Mayor, Bijapur, Mr. DR Upase, Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs and Mr.Shrishail Biradar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Bijapur, and Mr. S. Krishnamurthy, LAO, Belgaum Circle, Ministry of Defence. The dignitaries gave away the medals and certificates during the weeklong athletics meet.
Registrar Wg Cdr E.Srinivas and Senior Master GSR Murthy congratulated the winners. A number of dignitaries, staff, students and parents were present on the occasion.
