Animal and cell models are essential for the study of dementia; however, good models, particularly animal models, are lacking. Here, Diane Hanger, PhD, of King’s College London, London, UK, discusses her group’s work in this area, creating a mouse model of human tauopathy, and subsequently using it to study the pathogenesis and biochemistry of this condition. Prof. Hanger also discusses the neuronal and non-neuronal cell lines created, highlighting the important changes that have been observed in the presence of aberrant tau fragments, including that to the cytoskeleton and metabolism. She emphasizes the importance of this research in identifying therapeutic targets. This video was recorded at the Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) Conference 2018, held in London, UK.
