If your unemployment claim balance is running out and you want to know how the unemployment extensions are and how they work, please watch this video to the end. After your claim balance is exhausted and your claim balance reaches 0, you will be automatically placed on the first 13 week extension PEUC (Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation) as long as you are still within your benefit year. If you are within your benefit year, you do not need to reopen your claim. Your claim balance will go all the way down to 0 before you are moved onto the PEUC extension, your weekly benefit amount will remain the same and as long as you fill out the self certification that you are unemployed due to a Covid-19 reason, you should qualify for the additional $300 unemployment boost. If you are still unemployed after the first PEUC extension then in California there is another extension called FED-ED, it's requirements are a bit more strict but it's available to those who qualify for up to 20 more weeks of unemployment.
