Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) was a prominent Persian poet, philosopher, mathematician and astronomer. He was born in the city of Nishapur, in present-day Iran. His full name was Ghiyas al-Din Abu-l-Fath Omar ibn Ibrahim Khayyam. He received a brilliant education, studying philosophy, medicine, astronomy, mathematics and literature. Khayyam became famous as a scholar and calendar reformer. In 1079, he led the creation of the solar calendar, which was more accurate than the modern Gregorian calendar.
However, Khayyam is best known for his quatrains - rubai. In his poems he touched upon the issues of human existence, the frailty of life, free will, love and the search for truth. Khayyam's poetry is full of wisdom, skepticism and philosophical reflections on life and death, which makes his poems relevant today. He created in the 11th - 12th centuries, and it seems that his rubaii were written yesterday or at most a month ago, as far as his rubaii are relevant .
