Former MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga has been nominated by US President Joe Biden to lead the World Bank after current CEO David Malpass announced his intention to step down early. Banga has "critical experience mobilizing public-private resources to tackle the most urgent challenges of our time, including climate change," said Biden in a statement. Banga is the first Indian-born nominee to the World Bank president role. Banga, who is currently the vice-chairman at private equity firm General Atlantic, has more than 30 years of business experience and has served in various roles at Mastercard and the boards of the American Red Cross, Kraft Foods and Dow Inc.
