His Majesty, King Charles III and his wife Queen Camilla, received a warm welcome as they attended the 2024 Braemar Gathering at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park in Braemar, Scotland, to watch the Highland Games. This was on Saturday, September 7th, 2024 at Braemar in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
The Royal family were driven to the Royal box and greeted by distinguished guests including Sandy Manson, The Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, His Grace the Duke of Fife, Philip Farquharson 17th Laird of Invercauld, Capt. Mark Nicolson Honorary Vice Patron of the Braemar Royal Highland Games Society and Peter Fraser, President of the Society.
Queen Camilla was presented with flowers, after which special guests at the 2024 Braemar Gathering, the Band of the Royal Marines, Scotland, played as compere Robert Lovie led the singing of "God save the King". After this they watched as the massed Pipes and Drums marched in, led by Leading Drum Major Rowland Stuart, playing Scotland the Brave,.
The bands taking part were Ballater & District Pipe Band, Huntly & District Pipe Band, Lonach Pipe Band, Kintore Pipe Band, Gordonstoun Pipe Band, Perth & District Pipe Band, Gordonstoun Pipe Band, Granite City Pipes and Drums, Dunnottar Pipes and DRums and Blairgowrie, Rattray & District Pipes and Drums.
The annual Braemar Gathering, held a short distance from their Majesties summer residence at Balmoral, has been running in its present form since 1832, and has been attended by the reigning monarch since 1848. The King, who was a regular spectator at the games while Duke of Rothesay, will mark two years since his accession to the throne on Sunday 8th September 2024.
