Plenary Session | Navigating Data for Sustainable Development: Opportunities and Challenges |
In an increasingly data-driven world, harnessing the power of data for sustainable development while ensuring equity, security, and privacy is paramount. Addressing the digital divide is also essential to bridge disparities and ensure that marginalised communities benefit from data-driven development. Thus, it must follow that drives towards data literacy and the development of analytical capabilities in developing regions must ensure that local stakeholders remain active participants. As data collection grows, protecting individuals' privacy and security of sensitive data and preventing misuse and breaches require many ethical considerations that should guide data collection, storage, and utilisation. Governments can also positively leverage data to formulate evidence-based policies that drive sustainable development and address societal challenges. Private sector collaborations with governments and civil society for data sharing in support of development objectives can further yield positive results.
