The Riekermolen is a polder mill at the Kalfjeslaan near the Amstel. Next to the mill is a statue of Rembrandt made by Han Wezelaar, as a reminder of the fact that the painter made many drawings along the banks of this river. It was unveiled in 1969 on the 300th anniversary of his death.
The mill originally stood in the Riekerpolder south of the village of Sloten near Amsterdam. The mill has been under the supervision of the miller family Hardenberg for a long time:
Jan Hardenberg, miller in the Rietwijkeroordpolder, gem. Nieuwer-Amstel celebrated a rare party yesterday. For 60 years he was a miller on the same mill in which he was born. His father held that post at the same mill for about 30 years. The very old but still strong miller received the warmest expressions of interest from many quarters.
The mill, dating from 1636, had to disappear in 1956 due to the excavation of the Riekerpolder for the enlargement of the Nieuwe Meer and moved in 1961 to the Kalfjeslaan near the Amstel.
