We're an organic farm, and "plastic" is quite the bad word for many gardeners. So why do we have all of this?
This plastic helps keeps the soil moist for our plants, and it suppresses weeds. It's more than a barrier, though, since it also insulates, so I was able to get plants in the ground earlier than usual.
If you don't want to use plastic, cardboard or mulch (normally my preference, but this farm is new to us and much larger than our urban location which has several inches of mulch EVERYWHERE) are great options too.
