The model railroad layout, which is called “Ardmore”, is one beautiful example for rail transport modeling in Ireland. At the great Warley Model Railroading Exhibit 2019 the Model Railroad Society of Ireland presented its O scale layout, which is constructed as an end-to-end layout. It is representative of a typical Irish branch line terminus for an Irish town with facilities for passengers and freight. There is also a locomotive depot and servicing area including a turntable right at the end of the line which was a common feature on rural terminus lines.
Pilentum chose this model train layout for filming because of the unique rolling stock: The locomotives, freight cars and passenger cars are mainly converted items, kit built or handmade from metal or from brass. Also the majority of the buildings are handmade from various materials, having been based on Irish prototype buildings. The trains cover a wide period from the 1940’s to the 1970’s. That was the period when many branch lines in Ireland had closed. During the shooting of the video the layout has been operated to a realistic schedule to allow both passenger and freight trains to run in and out of the terminus.
