This Wilson's Phalarope (Phalaropus tricolor) was filmed at Modac National Wildlife Refuge. She is engaged in a feeding behavior referred to as "spinning." These active birds pick small bits of food from the water’s surface. When swimming, they spin in tight circles and create upwellings of food to the surface. At the beginning of the video you will see two Black-necked Stilts foraging nearby, giving you an idea of the size difference between the two species.
