⛰ About 150 thousand years ago, there was a strong explosive eruption that formed the Teide Volcano. Christopher Columbus, sailing past Tenerife in 1492, on the way to the New World saw "a strong fire in the Orotava Valley." This was interpreted as a volcanic eruption.

Highest point in Spain, center of Teide National Park. The height of which is 3718 m, the relative height above the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean - 7500 m, is the highest peak in this ocean.
Tenerife is the third largest volcanic island in the world!
