Autumn 2016 we visited England and Wales and I have re-edited the video-recordings we made. Join our visit day by day.
From our holiday cottage in West Burton we visited Richmond, Reeth and Bolton Castle. Alas it was a cloudy day but I hope you enjoy the footage.
Richmond is a market town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England and the administrative center of the district of Richmondshire. Historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire, it is 16 miles (26 km) from the county town of Northallerton and situated on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and is one of the park's tourist centres. The population of Richmond according to the 2011 United Kingdom census is 8,413.
The Rough Guide describes the town as 'an absolute gem'. Betty James wrote that "without any doubt Richmond is the most romantic place in the whole of the North East [of England]".
Reeth is a village 11 miles (18 km) west of Richmond in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England, in the civil parish of Reeth, Fremington and Healaugh. Historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, it is the principal settlement of upper Swaledale.
Bolton Castle is a 14th-century castle located in Wensleydale, Yorkshire, England. The nearby village of Castle Bolton takes its name from the castle. The castle is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The castle was damaged in the English Civil War, and “slighted” afterwards, but much of it survived. It has never been sold and is still in the ownership of the descendants of the Scrope family.
