The Bad and Good.
Old School Diesel overhaul in action.
So it's as simple as this:-
Diesel is an Oil. 🛢️
Oil burns smokey in liquid form.
Oil burns well when atomised. 🔥
We always laugh when watching an action movie and you see a Diesel truck explode like an atomic bomb. Well that's not really accurate as Diesel takes a lot of effort to ignite it and when it burns it burns with loads of black smoke.
So in some ways similar, if your Diesel injector isn't atomising the Diesel it won't want to easily bun. It may be harder to start and you will have a Smokey Diesel when you're loading it up.
That explained... So why do we do what we do when we're are doing injectors?
Old School Injectors we would rebuild by hand and install Brand New Genuine nozzles and hand seat everything to get a really crisp and raspy injector action. The injector pump would plunge up fuel pressure to each injector when needed. If an injector somehow became sticky, you would hear about it for sure but would have time to do something about it.
New School Common Rail Injectors we replace complete new. The tolerances for repair are infinitely smaller. Being common rail, the fuel pressure is available at each injector All the Time. If an injector became sticky, full fuel pressure would continue to pour out of the injector as the piston goes up and down and catastrophic engine damage would most likely follow.
Hearing injector rattles?
Do something about it!
Old Tech and New Tech.... 🤔 Which one do you choose?
