Awasuka Program started in July 2015 after the Nepal earthquakes. Awasuka stands for the Nepalese words Aawaas Sudhar Karyakram -Habitat Improvement Program- and is developed by three catalan organizations: Amics del Nepal NGO, Base-A NGO and CCD (Center for Cooperation and Development) at UPC University (Catalonia).
Based in Bhimphedi, its main goal is to empower the local population with technical knowledge through building earthquake-resistant houses with cost-effective and easy-to-build construction technique.
Awasuka’s anti-seismical “confined concrete block” prototype was approved by NRA (Nepal Reconstruction Authority at Nepal Government) to be implemented nationwide.
The program also tackles other problems related to habitat: Water Purification Awareness (through musical activities and workshops), Waste Management Assessment, Satellite Maps for Bhimphedi Gaupalika (first of its kind) and Chimney Construction for healthier cooking environments. It also advocates for the preservation of Bhimphedi Historical Buildings.
This video was shot at the initial stage of the program, before the beginning of the reconstruction works. Due to the enormous ammount of work this program has represented, it was not possible to finish the editing until now (Spring 2019).
