Susan Capurso, an End-of-Life Doula and Lisa Strahs-Lorenc, a Bereavement Specialist presented and discussed pancreatic cancer as a diagnosis. Lisa related the story of her husband's pancreatic cancer illness from symptoms, to diagnosis, to treatment and finally to the acceptance that there was no more hope. Treatments continue to develop, but this disease is still one of the 4 most deadly forms of cancer. The conversation also covered what actions to take when diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and suggestions for family members and friends. There are organizations like the Lustgarten Foundation where 100% of all monies raised are for research for early detection and an eventual cure. There are also support groups and listservs that exist so that people are not alone in this diagnosis. Do not hesitate to contact either Lisa or Susan with any questions or need for referrals. If they don't have an answer, they will research one and get back to you. We are not medical doctors, but our experience does help us with a better understanding and resource for you and your family member.
